Maurice Trouwborst (1981) is a Dutch director, writer, and editor specializing in film and television. He graduated in 2006 from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) with his graduation film 'JEF', which won three audience awards at national festivals. After graduating, Maurice directed the television drama 'URFELD' and the Christmas viral 'A MERRY HUNT’ reaching millions on Youtube. In 2015, he directed his first full-length television drama ‘DAMES4’.
The science fiction youth series 'ZENITH' earned him the Cinekid Jury Lion Award in 2017 and a nomination for a Rockie Award at the BANFF World Media Festival in 2018. Maurice then worked for five years as showrunner and director of the successful VPRO youth series ‘FLOOR RULES'. The series won both the Cinekid jury and audience awards and was honored with an International Emmy Award in 2019.
In 2021, his feature film debut 'CAPTAIN NOVA' opened the Cinekid Festival. The science fiction family film won the Cinekid Lion for Best Children’s Film and Best Dutch Children’s Film, and, as the cherry on top, also the audience award. At the Netherlands Film Festival (NFF), the film received the Golden Calf for Best Sound Design. It was acquired by Netflix and has reached a wide global audience.
In 2024 he directed the comedic drama film 'ABOUT WOMEN', inspired by the German film 'Wunderschön'. The film premiered on December 12, 2024, and was produced by Millstreet Films in collaboration with Amazon Prime. In 2025, his youth series 'THE FREEK TAPES', about the childhood of renowned Dutch biologist Professor Freek Vonk, premiered and is now airing prime time on the Dutch public network.
